Trenching FAQs
Common questions about our trenching services.
Do I need to call 811 before you dig?
Yes, and we'll help coordinate. 811 must mark all underground utilities before any digging. We won't break ground until locates are complete—it's the law and essential for safety.
How long does it take to get 811 locates?
Typically 2-3 business days, though it can vary. We factor this into project scheduling and recommend calling 811 as early as possible.
Do you handle the installation?
No, we provide trenching only. Your plumber, electrician, or contractor handles the installation. We can return for backfill after installation is complete.
What happens to the excavated soil?
We stage the spoils alongside the trench for backfill. If you need excess soil removed, we can haul it away for an additional cost.
Can you trench through rocky soil?
Yes, though rocky conditions take longer and may affect pricing. We'll assess soil conditions during the quote process.
Do you backfill the trenches?
Backfill is an optional add-on service. Most clients have us return after their contractor completes installation and inspection.
