Our Flooring Removal Process

A systematic approach ensures your subfloor is clean, level, and ready for new flooring installation.

1

Flooring Assessment

We evaluate the existing flooring type, number of layers, adhesive used, and subfloor condition. This helps us choose the right removal method and provide an accurate quote.

2

Area Preparation

We move furniture (or work around what you've cleared), protect walls and door frames, and set up dust containment with plastic sheeting and fans.

3

Flooring Removal

Using specialized equipment—floor scrapers, jackhammers for tile, and pry bars—we systematically remove the flooring material down to the subfloor.

4

Adhesive & Underlayment Removal

We scrape, grind, or chip away remaining thinset, mastic, carpet glue, and underlayment to leave a clean, bondable surface for your new flooring.

5

Clean-Up & Inspection

All debris is hauled away. We sweep and vacuum the subfloor, and can point out any areas needing repair before your flooring contractor begins.

Why Choose Do It All Demo for Flooring Removal?

Flooring removal is one of the most common—and most misunderstood—demo jobs. DIY attempts often leave adhesive residue, uneven surfaces, or damaged subfloors. We get it right the first time.

Professional Equipment

We use commercial-grade floor scrapers, ride-on removal machines, and grinders that DIY tools can't match.

Fast Turnaround

What takes a homeowner a weekend, we complete in hours. Most single-room flooring removal is done same-day.

Dust Control

Tile and concrete grinding creates silica dust. We use HEPA vacuums and containment to protect your home and our crew.

Installer-Ready Surfaces

Your flooring installer will thank you. We leave subfloors clean, level, and free of debris so new flooring adheres properly.

Flooring Removal FAQs

Answers to common questions about our flooring removal services.

How long does flooring removal take?

Carpet in a single room takes 1-2 hours. Tile removal is slower—a typical 200 sq ft room takes 4-6 hours. Larger areas or multiple flooring types may take a full day or more.

Do you remove the thinset under tile?

Yes. Leaving thinset creates an uneven surface. We grind or scrape thinset to ensure your subfloor is flat and ready for new tile or other flooring.

Can you remove multiple layers of flooring?

Absolutely. Many older homes have vinyl over vinyl, tile over linoleum, or carpet over hardwood. We remove all layers down to the subfloor.

What if the subfloor is damaged?

We'll identify any damaged areas during removal and let you know. We don't do subfloor repair ourselves, but we'll leave it accessible for your contractor or handyman.

Is flooring removal dusty?

Tile and concrete grinding creates fine dust. We use dust shrouds on grinders, HEPA vacuums, and plastic containment to minimize dust spread throughout your home.

Do I need to move my furniture?

Yes, furniture should be moved before we arrive. If you need help, we can move smaller items for an additional fee, but heavy furniture should be relocated ahead of time.
